The special rural fair on that old street is the most remarkable
memory of my childhood. I lived with my grandparents in a small village until
ten years old. And the rural fair just held every Sunday on the street we lived
in. It was not like the traditional night market, it held during the day time. People
would sell old special things they collected or something they made. And of
course, there were plenty of games and snacks that children liked. Every Sunday
I would take my small piggy bank with me and went for a stroll in the rural
fair with my friends. We liked the “guess lattice” game best.
The game was full
of randomness. There would be about ten lattices covered with newspaper. You
could pay one yuan to choose a lattice and then got the thing in it. Although
there were not expensive things, all it had were just stickers, candies or small
toys, we still love it. It was just the kind of feeling that no one know what
you would get makes us so interested in that game.
There were also lots of
delicious snacks in the rural fair. My favorite one is the grilled squid. It
was so popular that you need to queue for a long time to get one. The spice
they used was special, it not only kept the squid remained its fresh tastes,
but also salty and spicy. Every time I went for the rural fair, I would buy a
few strings of it. I loved it so much. But sadly, when I left the village, I never
eat such delicious grilled squid any more. The unique flavor sticks in my memory
forever. The rural fair is full of my memory. Every time I think of it, it just
like I return to my childhood.
